The day I got the Shiggles while eating Chicken Riggies

What a post title, right? Let me explain!

Shiggles = Shits and Giggles

Please don't think I shit my pants while I was eating. I did not.

Defintion of chicken riggies according to this source:
Chicken Riggies or Utica Riggies is an Italian-American pasta dish native to the Utica-Rome area of New York State. It is a pasta-based dish usually consisting of chicken, rigatoni and hot or sweet peppers in a spicy cream and tomato sauce, although many variations exist.

Real life riggies.
Sam has hyped chicken riggies for months! She had them before and every time we go to Rome for a bocce tournament (this happens way more frequently than I'm willing to admit) she talks about how much she wants them. I, however, had never heard of them and until this weekend, had never tried them. I do, however, love asking people from the Utica-Rome-Syracuse area about chicken riggies because, well, I'm an asshole and can't believe this secret existed. I mean, there's even such a thing as "Riggie Fest"

not. kidding.

On our way home from Syracuse we have to pass Rome and Utica. The place we were supposed to go to in Rome isn't open on Sundays so we were forced to find a different place in Utica. I got the creeps from the second I walked in. First of all, Sam and I were the ONLY ones in the restaurant.

Hmm, red flag numero uno.

Second of all, I'm pretty sure the family that owns the restaurant are mobsters. I had immediate visions of Goodfellas and was holding my breath, waiting for Henry Hill to walk out of the back with a gun.
SN: If it was Ray Liotta that walked out, I would instantly go from scared to let's-make-out-mode. Circa 1990 when the movie was made, of course. Except I would still be 25, not 4, like I was in 1990.

MOVING ON.

The riggies? Okay. The service? Horrible. My Shiggles? Out of control.
I'm pretty sure the waitress thought I was high. My eyes are constantly bloodshot these days due to all of my issues, so people always think I'm stoned. I'm not, thanks.

I'm just happy to have made it out of that plaza restaurant alive because in a little over a week I'll be in Rome (yup, Rome, NEW YORK) for another bocce tournament and I will be going here.

Have you ever heard of chicken riggies?
